RGM-89 Jegan & Base Jabber

Synopsis: One shortcoming the Char's Counterattack MSiA line had was in regards to the lack of many Londo Bell units to release. The Jegan was the grunt suit people looked forward to and it would take months from the first wave before this figure would grace the toy shelves. One added bonus of the domestic release is the addition of the Base Jabber vehicle shown extensively in the Anime.

I was not a big fan of the Jegan as shown in the series, something about the look of it was not appealing however the MSiA rendition of this figure is remarkable.

The Figure: The head of this figure is well detailed however the paintjob is a little sloppy around the visor. The head features a vulcan cannon similar to part of the RX-178 Gundam MK II Vulcan pod fixed on one side of the head.

The arms are largely unhindered by the shoulder armor except when spreading the arms far apart however even in this department the Jegan achieves a lot of range. The elbows bend nearly 180 degrees however under 90 degrees of the bending is in toward the rear in an unnatural fashion. The hand connection is in the form of a ball joint providing lots of range. Additional hands featured include 2 closed fists, 2 "sword" hands, and a righthanded gun hand.

The Legs feature the most articulation range of the entire figure. The legs can move freely due to the absence of any skirt armor. The knees had a surprising feature, a joint similar to version 2.0 figures allowing for natural bending of the knee. The ankles are a little more restricted due to the ankle armor. At the rear of the lower leg near the foot sits a movable thruster.

The torso is a nice sculpt given the somewhat stripped down design of the Jegan. The armor sides of the hips are movable and can even be removed. These parts house some of the Jegan's accessories. The torso can twist 360 degrees since the backpack does not hamper the movement. The back pack is removable and is connected by two rectangular pegs. The backpack has a warning decal on the backpack and features three thrusters with limited movement.

The Accessories:

Base Jabber: It is a well-detailed and well-painted Vehicle. All the thrusters are movable with a good range of motion. The Base Jabber features two handles on each side so that the Base Jabber can mount two Jegans at a time.

Shield: The shield continues the trend with having good detail and a great paintjob. The shield connects to the forearm via a peg connection. The peg also slides along a rail on the shield to adjust the shield at a decent position. This was probably a feature used to allow for better placement when mounting the Base Jabber.

Beam Saber: The storage of the hilt is really nice. Fitting on the figure's right hip armor. The only down side is that the hilt is too small to fit in the Jegan's sword hand effectively. The blade is thick and textured, not as smooth like most beam saber blades of most MSiAs.

Beam Rifle: The rifle fits the figure well and follows the appropriate scale of the Jegan. The detail on it is well and the only extra paint on the rifle is in the scope.

Grenades (3): these are removable cylinders housed in the left hip side of the figure. They are a great addition but at the same time serve as a choking hazard and an easy to loose accessory.

Play Value: Grunt suits always have lots of play value, the addition of the Base Jabber and the great articulation of the Jegan make this figure rather enjoyable to play around with.

Display Value: Like the GM Custom and ReGZ, the toothpaste green look of the figure is likely to draw some attention however in a lineup with other CCA figures like the Sazabi, The Jegan is not expected to be the centerpoint of the collection.

Dollar Value: The Attention Bandai placed on this vehicle set is well worth the price especially when considering the fact that the future Asian release will lack the Base Jabber and still be priced around the same price range.

Conclusion: This is one good Figure and Vehicle set despite some shortcomings.
